The foundation of chiropractic does not have its roots in Christianity necessarily. I cannot speak for DD Palmer, I have heard things about BJ Palmer being more “christian” in life and practice. I have not read all the green books. I really wished someone would put them into audio book for us. So this blog is not about the defense chiropractic being christian. Instead it is to reason the theory of chiropractic with how it compares to the current medical model. I sometimes a miss as to why christians are prone to chose the currently medical model over natural healthcare (at least as first resort).

Simplified models: Chiropractic has the base thought that the body has in itself the ability to heal itself. That is if the body is in good homeostasis point, nervous system working well, it will attempt to correct the problem within. With my theological background I think about how Adam was never designed to die. God designed Adam to live forever. In the book of Corinthians it says the “wages of in is death” that means before sin entered the world, there was no death. In the book of Genesis there are numerous stories of people living to ages we (in our current thoughts) can’t comprehend. Theologically we understand that sin has degraded the body over time, over the ages. That does not mean that everything that was Adam was lost, but just that creation was effected and the creation was degraded. You cut yourself and two weeks later the body has replaced the skin and we are good to go. If a body is out of place slightly the nervous system does to work correctly, whether to a limb or back to the brain. If left uncorrected it can and will lead to changes in the brain, effecting the immune system, organ function etc. If corrected soon enough then the brain is able to reset and help resolve the issues. Research is proving that an upper cervical adjustment can effect the immune system in promoting certain immunoglobulins post adjustment, follow Dr Rosa for more information,

Simplified medical model: I will not profess to being an expert accept the pharma model we follow has reasons to exist. There is not enough plants and natural elements at times to help with medications to treat such a huge population. To try and synthesize these compounds to replicate the effects requires large amounts of research and money invested. The fall back is you cannot patent nature. The only way to receive a return on the work and money invested to lock it down, in a patent, to help return the investment. Like I said you can patent nature, so the companies change the molecular structure to help solve the patent issue. Now this structure is not a structure existing in creation, when this happens… we have side effects. Its that whole discussion in that you cant live without it but its not the best system. Want some examples look up the history of recalled medications, especially the COX 1 inhibitors. When man tries to fiddle with creation there are always side effects.

Why would Christians chose mimicry over natural care? Its for this reason I became a Chiropractor, It seems so much more inline with God’s way of healing, as natural as possible. Then using synthetics. It has its time and place in the healing arts but why make synthetics the first stop…. Instead of the last stop. Why do christians and the general population chose unnatural healthcare model? Best I have been able to assume is PR, and lack of correct education on what healthcare is. We have been lead to think we do not know what healthcare is or how to do it so we blindly trust a system based around making money over true healthcare. Physician’s are taught that they should speak confusing terms to their patients so they realize the doctors are more educated, in turn they follow what you say, thats a control tactic. Chiropractors are taught to speak on the patients level, to educate the patients. Yet for some reason people are skeptical of Chiropractic. Lets deal with an elephant in the room shall we.

Its hard to not cover this when understanding concepts. Firstly, chiropractor are sometimes not kinds to their own. There also some whacky techniques in chiropractic that verge into the new age realm, while I do not support these theories, as a Christians, I know of case studies where they have helped some so I do not condemn. I am not all knowing and not a total authority on this issue. Some in the medical community would find it hard to figure this out and so it paints a controversial picture of what we do. There is also one final point and that goes back to the 80’s called the Wilk case. There is a great docu on Prime about this called Doctored. At this same time (in history) Osteopaths became more like MD’s and the pressure was on DC’s to do the same. Chiropractors resisted this to stay focussed on adjusting the spine. There are some horror stories about these times, offices being burnt down etc. Overall the wilk case of when a whistle blower dropped the information needed to pursue a case against the American Medical Association for trying to shut down Chiropractic. The result, the chiropractors won the case on appeal. It was at this time you here nick names for chiropractic such as Quack, Quackery. Both those terms come from this time in history. Its sad but its history. So if a friend, or yourself have ever heard those terms its to do with the bad PR from the issues with the AMA. Now, that is history, its not the present. Chiropractic in general is being realized as a helpful aspect of the correct healing protocol for care, new MD’s are seeing the benefit of referring patient to us for care. We are qualified to consult on nutrition, therapies as well as adjusting the spine. We still chose to leave prescription care to the MD’s and quite frankly I am okay with this due to amount of extra education and malpractice needed.

In reflection, lets put history in its place, seek a good functional chiropractor to be part of your healthcare program that you design and that us doctors are there to help and assist. You should be in charge of your health. Seek natural care before synthetic care, knowing its there when needed. Get your body aligned, so there it helps your body prevent disease.
